I Need a Brake!

If you've ever been driving along and wondered how your vehicle is able to come to a halt in the event of an emergency or simply a red light, the answer is friction! Every vehicle is equipped with brake pads made of a mixture of iron, copper, steel, and graphite. These metallic slabs are responsible for slowing and eventually completely stopping your automobile.

As you press down on your brake inside your vehicle, this moves a lever via a hydraulic press to press the pad against the wheel that is connected to the axle. Friction as the two rub together slows the motion until the tire can no longer rotate. This friction and grinding is what eventually wears down the pads.

To be sure your pads are functioning properly and not overdo for a change, visit our service center at McMullen Ford right here in Council Bluffs, IA!
